Thoughts on SGU 01x03, Air Part 3
That was interesting. Good interesting.
Well, there were a couple things that made me go "...hm." Specifically the music at the end. It was different enough without overlapping the dialogue, and when it started doing that it was just weird.
Overall I found it a very satisfying conclusion to these first episodes. It made me hopeful for the crew's survival but also reminded me how desperate their situation is.
I love what they did with Rush assuming (hoping) there would be a safety protocol to keep the ship from jumping. For some reason that just hit me.
Reminds me of Lost, with characters in the present and then going back to their lives before (e.g. Scott and the priest in the chapel).
I loved loved loved the way that the different characters all brought different things to what was going on. Felt more "real" than a lot of shows I've seen - i think that's a good way to put it, at least.
Also, Greer. Go Greer! I love it when TV programs aren't afraid to show us characters yelling and showing anger or passion.
Robert Carlyle is a cutie.
Rush/Eli OTP. I'm so feeling it! Hehehehee. Also Scott/Young (or Scott/Greer?? the pouring water into Scott's mouth was sweet but I realize it didn't mean anything) might be interesting. (And, five billion points to whoever writes a Scott/sandstorm fic.)
Chloe and Scott holding hands: I really did like what they did there, the friendship and the bonding over lost parents, and Scott trying to comfort her. The holding hands was sweet and I loved how you could see his hand was sunburned, and it was sweet and nice and, distracting music notwithstanding, a good scene. However, I would love to see them build up friendship for a while first - and I can just see them going straight into the romance.
Okay, and as much as I am talking about the music at the end... I think it really was okay. I remember there only being one episode of SG-1 (and there are a few I haven't seen, but I'm thinking they're like the others) that had music with lyrics, and that was Unending, the series finale. I remember it being so emotional - it made me cry. The music just really added to that emotion, and I felt that here too. The "breathe" thing I thought was nice because having the life support fixed (for now) and having better breathable air, and how we saw the characters just appreciating the air... it was emotional, and I liked that. I just wasn't prepared for the emotion to come so early in the show, I guess - but that is not a bad thing, just something I will have to get used to.
So far, SGU makes me happy!
