WIP Away From This Place part 3a

Part 3 isn't finished but I'm posting a bit of it now so [livejournal.com profile] somehowunbroken can read it today because I think today might be a good day for it, although I will not be able to compete with the kinkmeme haha, yay for kinkmeme!

Basically if you are not [livejournal.com profile] somehowunbroken you can ignore since I will post part 3 as a whole later on, or you can read if you want a preview of part 3. (Also, warning, I might revise some of this slightly for later.) (Yes, I know this whole story process has been so convoluted. *offers everyone cookies?*)

part 2

- part 3 a -

Danny said hi and smiled at Steve as he sat down beside him. It was a little bit of a smile that Steve could see didn't reach Danny's eyes.

"Hey," Steve said, looking out at the fire and nudging Danny's shoulder with his, "lemme show you something." Steve nodded his head towards the woods.

Danny's mood seemed to perk up right away. "Are you serious? Does that line actually work on anybody?"

"It's not a li-"

"Besides," Danny continued immediately, "I've already seen your dick in the showers and I have to say I was not impressed, McGarrett." Back to last names, the familiar cadence of close-quarters-and-testosterone fueled banter.

Steve's enjoying seeing him riled up so he continues the teasing: "Oh, you liar! You were so impressed."

"Oh you wish," Danny fires back.

"Yeah," Steve says, slower and lower. "Maybe I do wish." And it's not teasing anymore, it's purpose and intent and Steve is grateful that whatever Danny sees in his eyes isn't enough to scare him away.

Danny just allowed himself to be dragged away and through the woods and up a hill, and he feels like he's narrating a children's book in his head. Er. Hm. He doesn't really know what's going on, doesn't know what Steve wants, but knows it's easier to give in right now, the dual forces of his tiredness and Steve's hopeful eyes dampening his natural tendency to rant and bitch and flail.

It's a tribute to his mental state that he doesn't see the telescope until Steve points it out to him.
