Happy New Year! A story and a weird little intro to the story, plus manip/icon. (SGA, PG/teen)

So basically what happens is, at some point there is a New Year's party on Atlantis that is also celebrating the end of the DADT-repeal-adjustment process, right, so they're celebrating a lot of different stuff because - oh yeah, let's not forget - they just won this huge victory against the Wraith, too. So okay, they have this huge party, and all the generals and people from Washington and such are there, and it's a rather fancy party (they have less formal ones, all week long in fact, and a huge party on the mainland, and unofficial bonfire parties and more-official sports-playing parties but this one is the formal one that all the brass are there for) in a high-ceilinged room in Atlantis. The skylight shows all the Pegasus stars and it's so beautiful, and maybe there's a bit of a weird lens-type thing in the skylight so that the stars aren't just stars, they're like a rainbow and a disco ball and a celebration of their own.

And in this story, Parrish... well. Parrish knows there's nothing wrong with his geeky looks - but he also knows it's going to be so much fun to surprise someone with a different side of himself.

Lorne's standing there in his dress uniform with O'Neill and Sheppard, in a talk that started with the strategies that helped them bring down the Wraith and has now meandered to the topic of pretzels, and then Parrish enters the room, and Lorne's seeing his teammate for the first time that day but it's like he is seeing him for the first time ever. 'Cause he's never looked twice at the guy in that way, but, now... now...

Parrish is wearing a gorgeously tailored suit, all clean lines that turn awkward long limbs into beautiful things that captured Lorne's eye. A waistcoat, expensive-looking shoes, and other attention to detail add dignity to the ensemble and keep Lorne looking. The best part of the clothes, though, is the high shirt collar, accentuating what Lorne now knows is a beautiful long neck - and how did he miss that, anyway? - that he wants to put his mouth on, right now. He barely tears his eyes away from Parrish's neck to note that it looks like he used some kind of product in his hair; it's sticking forward in stylish spiky bits Lorne feels the need to run his fingers through, and Parrish looks confident and smooth and charming and Lorne is SO not listening to O'Neill pontificate on fishing, seriously, wow.

Parrish has moved through the room a bit, saying hi to a few people, but breaking off from his latest conversation to walk a bit more - toward him, Lorne sees, not the group of them but him because now Parrish is close enough that Lorne sees the intent in his eyes. Lorne waves a distracted goodbye to his superior officers and moves towards Parrish, who touches his arm when they're close enough and says "hello, Major" in a voice that Lorne's sure he's never heard before, and before he knows what's happening Parrish is leading him to the balcony, and outside the air is bright and chilled but all Lorne feels is Parrish's hand, still on his arm.

"Hello... David," he replies, and it really does feel like the start of another wonderful thing.
