A thing I wrote
Hawaii 5-0, 326 words of PG-rated Danny/cat!Steve preslash
A missing scene from Tuna by
delicatale, which you should read first because this won't make sense without it.
Also posted here as a belated entry to
delicatale's hugfest.
I wish I could tell you too, Danny.

Steve's seen Danny drunk before but never quite this drunk, and once again Steve tries, really really hard, to become human again. But it wasn't his fault in the first place and so whatever changed him is going to have to change him back, or something, because the awesome power of his mind is just not cutting it.
Steve doesn't let himself think that this might not undo itself, that he might be stuck a cat forever; up til now he's been content to communicate to Danny through purrs and gentle headbutts and such but soon he's gonna have to learn cat sign language, or he's going to need to start scratching letters into the walls, or something, something that says "I'm here, it's me," because seeing Danny this torn up about him - Steve's under no illusions this isn't about him - is just making his heart heavy and his stomach clench and his stomach, oh, oh crap....
Thankfully Danny's too drunk to notice Steve excuse himself and go throw up quietly in the corner.
*****
The kitchen is empty when Steve gets back; he climbs onto the counter to finish the remains of the tuna steak and promptly hops down again to join Danny. Danny, who is (under Steve's skin, beautiful, everything) collapsed on the couch and looking like he's two seconds away from passing out.
Steve jumps onto the armrest and looks up the length of Danny's body and into his eyes. They look at each other a moment before Danny extends his arms and says "C'mere, babe" and Steve doesn't need telling twice, jumping onto Danny's chest and pawing at his chin.
"Aw, geez," says Danny. "Your breath, what, what died in your mouth?" and the weariness isn't enough to mask the fondness on his face and in his voice, and Steve licks Danny's nose and snuggles into Danny's warm chest and sighs.
