Apples and Honey
SGA, Lorne/Parrish
460 words
rating: Teen
emotional h/c
warnings: shifting POV, long rambly sentences, and not Sheppard bashing, but kind of like if it had a tiny baby brother.
Summary: Lorne and Parrish have an argument, and it’s okay.
A/N: Inspired by this post by
calcitrix about the story behind John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed).
So Evan and David are fighting, because Evan feels he needs to shut down the illicit alcohol-making activities before they become a problem Sheppard'll have to deal with, and while David isn't actually involved in said activities a couple of his good friends are, not to mention the fact that he doesn't exactly disagree with the need for being able to blow off steam like this (because goodness knows there's always too much crap to deal with in Atlantis and never enough beer brought by the Daedalus).
Evan made the mistake of mentioning it to David at the end of a long day, knowing that the next day is going to be even longer and wanting to vent, and instead of sympathy for his aching muscles and near-continual stress-induced headaches David gives him some increasingly-animated story about Chapman and applejack and an apple a day, which Evan doesn't really hear all that well because he's too angry that his boyfriend doesn't understand the concept of duty and doing things you don't necessarly agree with just because you have to (and wasn't that issue just simmering under the surface for a while, waiting for something small to make it bubble up and boil over).
And suddenly David realizes something is wrong - and his story doesn't matter, because it seems like Evan's about to cry, and he knows that it isn't about the argument because they always handle arguments well (they may be loud and possibly even angry, but they're most always constructive and always followed by a hug) and Evan never looks quite like this.
So he scoots closer to Evan on the bed and moves a palm in soothing circles on the skin between Evan's shoulderblades. He's not sure what he should say and then Evan starts first.
He's just so tired, he explains in deep, broken breaths. Sometimes he thinks it's easier to deal with the Wraith than with Sheppard - he can't exactly shoot his CO - and every bit of stress he tries to spare his boss is just another bit of weight added to the pile on his own shoulders.
David listens to him go on for a while, the upset gradually being replaced by fatigue as he wears himself out. Then he coaxes Evan under the covers, tucks him in and places on his eyelids what Evan called "honey-sweet kisses" that time after a festival on some idyllic world. David wonders if they'll ever get back to the thing about the still, and they probably will because Evan's like that - he'll ask about it later and make sure he listens to everything David has to say.
But before he says a word about the still, David will make sure to say "I love you."
