I want to share another version I have, which is even larger and text-free for use for wallpapers, but I have uploaded it several times and it ends up breaking in one browser and not in another; here it is if you are able to see it. And in case all those links weren’t enough here is winged!Cam without a background.

Cam left the room and entered the previous one to the sight of a concerned Vala, a slightly ranting McKay, and John - who stood holding a football and a piece of fresh apple pie.
Three weeks later, in Colorado again, Cam's back started to itch.

The wings looked magnificent, there was no denying that. Beautifully shaped, perfect whites and gorgeous grays, feathers soft and sleek... in a corner of his mind, he had to admit that standing in front of the mirror he looked a bit like an angel. But this was far from a blessing.
It was awkward as hell trying to keep them folded up when he walked down the corridors or stood in an elevator trying not to give people a face full of feathers. Not to mention the strangeness of trying to balance with all that new weight on his back - that was getting better than it had been at first but it still felt like it would never be the same again. And bathing? Well, there were wheelchair-accessible shower stalls in the infirmary, so that was almost okay, but actually getting the wings clean was definitely not. Cam had to sleep on his stomach now, which made his neck stiff and sore, and sometimes he rolled over unconsciously in his sleep, leading to even worse back pain in the morning. Not to mention - he always stood out. Cam had no idea how the entire base hadn't heard the story yet but he kept getting stares and questions - or, more accurately, the same two or three questions over and over and over.
All of that, though, he could have managed to deal with. It was definitely a lot to deal with, but it would have been manageable... except for the stress of being confined to base. Being cooped up was annoying under the best of circumstances and shortest of times, and this wasn’t – the wings were there to stay, and Cam felt a hopelessness descend over him like a cloud.
Sam had contacted McKay, who promised the device Cam had accidently stepped into wouldn’t be able to change him back. She had then demanded, and received, some time from Landry to go to Atlantis and examine the device herself; unfortunately, the result had been the same.
Surgeons of multiple specialities had been consulted and came to Colorado to poke at his wings and X-ray his spine and tell him that amputation would be unadvisedly traumatic, since the bone structure of the wings was actually integrated into the rest of his body.
He periodically got to go to the alpha site and fly around – and the flying was wonderful - but he simply wasn’t getting out of the mountain enough.
He thought that maybe he could go out in Colorado a bit with his wings folded under a trenchcoat – it would be painful, but better than breathing recirculated air and seeing nothing but concrete – but there was no way he was going to get to try it. Landry was sympathetic; the civilians in Washington were significantly less so, and decided to take no chances.
At least he had his team. Sam was encouraging while still understanding of his frustration, and went out of her way to make him feel normal. After one intense discussion Daniel, bless him, seemed like he didn’t even notice anything wasn’t normal. Vala sat with him and listened, with years of feeling different and isolated showing in her own gaze. Teal’c invited Cam to meditate with him, and provided a strong unspoken example of inner peace and acceptance. And they all did things with him on base – movies, board games... but all their efforts weren’t enough to keep him from getting depressed.
So, after what seemed like an eternity since he’d visited Atlantis, Cam was called into Landry’s office. And Landry said they needed to talk about Cam’s future with the Stargate program.
*****
Atlantis was as beautiful as ever, and had so much sky. It was a bit hard to adjust at first, moving away from his team and job and family, but Cam soon settled in and found himself loving it. He sparred with John and Evan, having now learned to balance better. They loved the new challenge of fighting such a different opponent and Cam loved using his body again. He talked with Teyla, who reminded him sometimes of the best parts of the people he loved back home, and ate meals with Zelenka, who forced a sense of humor into Cam about his situation by comparing him to his pigeons.
He often flew around the city, and was able to go to and explore the mainland whenever he wanted, and the freedom was exhilarating.
But the best part was the time he spent with Chuck. Their friendship started with an introduction from John, and Chuck bringing Cam up to speed on gossip and the city’s barter system. Then it became conversations about Earth sports and Pegasus politics, meals eaten together and hanging out after movie night.... And then the friendship became something more, and more, and almost all of a sudden they were flying.

Also, what a cautionary tale for the kiddies: never makes wishes in front of a literal device.

I have a bit of detail in my head about how the machine works - suffice to say, if Cam had thought about flying in, say, an F-302, the machine would have tried to give him an F-302. But Cam in this story thinks of flying as freedom and the sky and more wing-ish so he got wings.

That was a wonderful story!
Thank you!

Your artwork is just brilliant. I totally defy anyone not to want to read the story after seeing it. :-)
