Rec: The Brendan Hypothesis (Harlequin Challenge) by [livejournal.com profile] smittywing

from the header info:

Rating: PG-13? (There is no sex? Where did my sex go?)
Pairing: McKay/Brendan Dean, McKay/Sheppard
Summary: Major John Sheppard looks exactly like Rodney McKay's ex-lover, Brendan Dean. The only problem is that Brendan died seven years ago and Rodney's quickly finding out that John Sheppard is an intriguing man himself.

excerpt:

This is me being excited," Rodney assured her. "Happy face, see?" He beamed at her and then went back to his calculations. Work never got itself blown into a million bitty pieces on a New York street corner.

Please credit, and don't alter or hotlink.

Comments if you use the icons or wallpaper would make my day!

Lastly, I have Lorne-related fic recs for you!

Brush Strokes is a rated G gen fic, and it was written for me for [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa !  I was so pleased to receive this story - it's a wonderful character study about Lorne, and a beautiful glimpse into life "behind the scenes" on Atlantis.  Unfortunately the author is still anonymous at this point so I can't tell you who wrote it, but I'm excited to be able to find out later.

The other two fics I'd like to recommend come from [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic in response to prompts.  In the first one, Rodney is a little mean, but things turn out all right for Lorne in the end!  In the second fic, Lorne has a Christmas-related misunderstanding, involving structurally unsound Ancient furniture and a  strategically placed bit of mistletoe.

Merry Christmas from Lorne - I hope you enjoy!

Area 52 details:

Date Archived: Nov 22, 2004
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Categories: Angst, Drama, First Time
Season/Episode: Any Size: 79kb
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Character Death
Spoilers: None
Summary: Jack had wanted him to know

I usually stay away from deathfic. I am a very emotional person and I generally don't want the types of emotions that I feel would come knowing one of the characters I love has died. But I'm very glad that I read this. Jack dies at the beginning of the story, and through the rest of the story the reader sees how Daniel deals with his death. I liked having the death at the beginning, because it seemed less jarring to me; I was just easily able to accept it as fact.

The way that Daniel deals with Jack's death is written in a very beautiful fashion. The style of writing is poetic in parts, which helps us see Daniel's emotions. And there are a couple of particular settings that I love, one for reminding me of a particular place in my own life and both for being a good backdrop for Daniel's feelings.

One of my favorite lines: Love could be simple and commonplace and easy and that was not how it been for them and it would not have been enough.
